The oldest and longest-running equestrian competition starts Wednesday, at the age of 29, and there will be about 2,000 new seats, new pathways, new bathrooms and new events scheduled. The show grounds have been renovated, and the schedule has been made two weeks long, totaling 12 weeks. Grass has been replaced with a mixture of sand and fibres that lasts longer and is easier on the horses’ legs and hooves. New golf cart tracks are being installed around the grounds to separate horses and carts. A new outdoor restaurant will open, and there will be directory maps of the grounds. Opening and closing parties are planned and there will be some nighttime events. Traditionally, Sunday afternoon is “the big day”. 2,600 requests for the 2,800 available stalls have been filled.
